Indonesia: Sukabumi Police Chief claims Ahmadiyah mosque sealed to prevent its burning

'The sealing is done so that the mosque burning incident of 2008 did not repeat again'
The government of Sukabumi sealed Al-Furqan Mosque belonging to the Ahmadiyah congregation in Kampung Parakansalak RT 02 RW 02, Village / District Parakansalak, Sukabumi, Tuesday, July 26, 2016. The sealing that did not trigger any resistance from the Ahmadiyah, involved about 160 troops of the combined forces of the Civil Service Police Unit and the Sukabumi Police.
Head of the Sukabumi Municipal Police, Eka Widianto Dadang declared that sealing is necessary to prevent possible conflicts among the town residents. Dadang claimed their action was legal and in accordance with Regional Regulation No. 10/2015 on the Implementation of Public Order and Community serenity, though the sealing was carried out without any prior notice to the Ahmadiyya congregation.
"If there were to be an announcement that the mosque is going to be sealed, it could have caused a reaction resulting in a turmoil," The were complaints related to the worship activities of the Ahmadiyah congregation during the month of Ramadan. Instead of triggering the conflict, we as law enforcement agencies deem it important to take preventive measures by carrying out this sealing," said Dadang.
He added that the sealing is done so that the mosque burning incident of 2008 did not repeat again and the local government and related institutions will conduct a study.
