Last Friday was an absolutely wonderful experience for me. In Islam, Friday is regarded as the holiest day of the week, but Friday, June 24, was extremely memorable for me. That Friday the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Fitchburg held a Ramadhan Iftar dinner that was enjoyed by almost 50 guests, including the Fitchburg Mayor Stephen Dinatale and Police Chief Ernest F. Martineau.
With the rise of Islamaphobia in the U.S., it was incredibly heartwarming to see so many from the community come out and join Muslims for dinner. Guests were treated with a recitation of the Holy Quran, a short video introducing the community, and an address by our missionary, Hamid N. Malik, who spoke on the True Islam campaign (www.trueislam.com).
On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the mayor, the chief of police and other guests of the Fitchburg community for coming out and spending the evening with us. It wasn't until that night that I realized the potential for love and co-existence in the city of Fitchburg.
We greatly appreciated all of your kind gestures and pray that our friendships will last for many years. We are happy to call Fitchburg our home and hope to see you at the Fourth of July parade.
