16 youth from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association hiked up the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Saturday 16th July amongst 300 hikers in aid of the British Red Cross and in memory of Kamal Aftab a Regional Youth Leader of AMYA and Humanitarian.
Through their efforts the youth raised £1000 to support the essential work of the British Red Cross, the youth are aiming to raise a further £18,000 this year in aid of a number of British Charities under the banner of the organizations Mercy4Mankind Charity Initiative.
The hike began at the Village Hall, Horton in Ribblesdale and the 3 peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough were climbed on the day taking a total of 8 hours. The youngest member from AMYA was 15 years old and Nadeem Ahmad, Youth Leader of AMYA Yorkshire described how it felt:
"Extremely difficult challenge, tackling Yorkshire's three biggest peaks. However, it was a great day with plenty of sunshine and friendly faces to meet along the way. I'm very happy to have completed the challenge, as this was my first ever Hike"
Max Newton, Yorkshire Senior Community Fundraiser for British Red Cross expressed his appreciation of AMYA's efforts saying:
"We are so grateful to all the guys from AMYA who took on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge for the British Red Cross. Even more, we are so humbled that these young Muslim gentlemen chose our event to take part in to honour the memory of the late Kamal Aftab. Kamal was an amazing guy who raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity. He was also a keen walker and a friend."
