VICTOR — Ontario County’s original Town of Peace, Ganondagan, will set the stage for bridge-building between individuals of various gender, religious and ethnic groups.
An event called “Breaking Bread, Building Bridges” will be hosted by the non-profit organization, Friends of Ganondagan, on Sunday, August 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Seneca Art and Culture Center in Victor.
Taking the lead will be transgender woman Gabrielle Hermosa, along with Mubarak Bashir from the Rochester Ahmadiyya Muslim community. Joining them will be Lauren Jimerson (Seneca), who was raised on the Cattaraugus Indian reservation. From 2 to 3 p.m., each guest will share their personal stories and perspectives.

Mubarak Bashir serves as director of faith outreach and the youth president of the local chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Rochester. In that role he works to build bridges and break down stereotypes about Islam and Muslims. Bashir is married with three children and works as the director of the YouthBuild program at the Urban League of Rochester.

General admission for the event is $10 per person, and $7 for Friends of Ganondagan members. Tickets are available at the door at the Seneca Art & Culture Center, 7000 County Road 41, Victor.
