Muslims forgive mosque shooter
Ted A. Hakey Jr. was invited to speak at Ahmadiyya Muslim convention in Harrisburg.
Prophet Muhammad continuously taught that one should forgive the sins of others, which is exactly what the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community demonstrated at their annual convention in Harrisburg, Pa., last week.
In November of 2015, Ted A. Hakey Jr. fired shots into a nearby mosque belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. Fortunately, there were no worshipers in the mosque at the time ("Man who fired at mosque after Paris attacks gets prison," June 17).
Despite the circumstances, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community saw this as an opportunity to better educate the shooter, who is now regarded as a brother by the community.
At the convention, Mr. Hakey spoke in front of the crowd of 4,000 about his journey in learning about true Islam, and he now endorses Islam as a peaceful religion at its core and encourages others to learn the same.
