I am hopeful that our politicians will remain mindful of their rhetoric as they campaign so as not to increase hatred and division and be models of honesty, excellence, and decency.

Dear Editor,
As a Muslim, it is my civic responsibility to engage in the political process and to hope for and strive for the betterment of our country.
The Prophet Muhammad stated, “A leader of the people is one who serves them” (Sakhavi).
While not endorsing any particular political candidate, I endorse this quality amongst candidates at all levels of government and hope our elected officials will take office with a mindset to serve all sections of American society.
I am hopeful that our politicians will remain mindful of their rhetoric as they campaign so as not to increase hatred and division and be models of honesty, excellence, and decency.
