Dear Editor:

This Muslim-American wants Presidential candidate Donald Trump to know that he and the billion plus other Muslims in the world wish to end ISIS more than he does, because these extremists not only destroy peace in the world, but they also hijack the very name of Islam.

The way to get rid of extremism is not, however, to insist that the White House use the term “radical Islamic terror.”

For example, if a group of people orchestrated some of the worst atrocities in human history—such as conducting the systematic, centuries-long Spanish Inquisition, meant to brutally torture Muslims and Jews into becoming Christians or justifying the enslavement of generations of Africans in America using verses from the Bible, as has sadly occurred—they could rightfully be called terrorists, but I would not attack the original teachings of Christianity for their wrongs.

So instead of labelling Islam as a radical faith because of the misdeeds of a tiny minority of medieval Muslim renegades, I invite Trump and my fellow Americans to dialogue with their Muslim neighbors. In fact, come visit us at our weekly “Coffee, Cake, and True Islam” Open House at my Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Pittsburgh mosque on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. (at 747 South Avenue, Wilkinsburg, Pa.).

Rather than polarizing citizens against one another, we need to work in harmony to defeat extremism. That’s how together we will truly make our country great again.
