Perspective: Importance of Justice | Kanita Tariq

Americans have kept the spark for justice alive, from battling unfair taxes over 200 years ago, to emancipating slaves, to the new wave of Silence Breakers unveiling the truth surrounding sexual assault.

There is a massive imbalance of power in the world.

Undoubtedly, minorities have encountered prejudice for far too long. Racism in the criminal justice system, communal class struggles, sexism in the workplace- these are only fragments of the truth, yet severely harmful to the construct of society.

These are fragments- fragments of the harsh realities in America, and microscopic in comparison to the monstrosities occurring across the globe. Internationally, racism has resulted in lethal warfare. Colossal class differences are so tremendous that low-income families starve for weeks at a time. Inequality between the sexes has become fatal. World peace is unheard of, and with “the land of the free” and “home of the brave” a less than admirable example, it will remain a far-away and idealistic concept.

Americans have kept the spark for justice alive, from battling unfair taxes over 200 years ago, to emancipating slaves, to the new wave of Silence Breakers unveiling the truth surrounding sexual assault.

With such a stubborn distinction in morals, how could we as Americans allow for discrimination on our own land? How could we as human beings permit our own divisive judgements to turn a blind eye towards the horrors around the world, let alone the injustices in our own streets?

It seems like finding a solution is a hopeless endeavor, and it can often be forgotten that there is a solution, regardless of how obscure it may seem. The only way to repair the issues at hand is to ally with people who have the same end goal. The same vision for a mended world- one where neighbors can live beside each other in harmony.

There is such a group with its mission statement highlighting the importance of justice in this increasingly unjust world. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a congregation of Muslims who believe in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian. Members have dedicated their lives to emphasizing the true Islam’s philosophy. The Community itself is known for speaking out against the extremist hijacking of the values of their religion, and implementing Islam’s message of peace in their daily lives.

The current spiritual head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, guides Ahmadi Muslims in the direction of lawfulness. During his address at Capitol Hill in 2012, he advises: “The Qur’an teaches that wherever and whoever counsels you towards sinful or unjust behavior, you should reject it… Similarly, no country should seek to unjustly appropriate or take over the resources of another country on the false pretext of trying to assist or support them. Thus, on the basis of providing technical expertise, governments should not take advantage of other nations by making unjust trade deals or contracts… Therefore, the United States, as the world’s largest power, should play its role in acting with true justice and with such good intentions, as I have described. If it does so then the world will always remember with great admiration your great efforts.”

Ahmadi Muslims desire the best for society, and in order to eliminate the injustices in the world, it is vital to unite with an organization that promotes such exemplary ideals. For more information visit www.trueislam.com
