Demanding an end to the family separations which have occurred due to President Donald Trump's zero tolerance immigration policy, local organizations held a march and a community forum in Pomona and Riverside, respectively.
Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Pomona on June 23 to demand the immediate family reunification of families separated at the border because of Trump's “cruel and inhumane” policy.
Organized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Latino and Latina Roundtable, and other local organizations, the “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice" march included a rally in front of Pomona's library with speeches by local organizers, including Faheem Ahmed, from Ahmadiyya Muslim Community; Jeanette Royston, from NAACP; and Jose Calderon, from the Roundtable, among others.
“We support human rights for all, and we believe this administration does not care for human rights. Immigrant children have been separated from their parents as part of a cruel and inhumane policy. This has to stop now,” said Calderon. “This administration has vowed to keep families together; however, they keep enforcing the zero tolerance policy.”
