USA: Ahmadi Muslims leave gathering with renewed commitment

This year's convention was extra special for us because it was held during the 4th of July weekend. As Muslims who believe in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, we believe that love for one's country is part of the Islamic teachings.

July 1 is special for me. Every year, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community gather for an annual convention. This year, it was held in Harrisburg.

I can say from my experience this convention is different from other gatherings. Its purpose is unique and its participation gives a special feel. People of various origins and colors all sit together and listen to enlightening speeches, eat and spend time together for three days.

On our return from the convention, our hearts are filled with mutual love and care for humanity. We also gain a renewed commitment to promote and practice peace.

This year's convention was extra special for us because it was held during the 4th of July weekend. As Muslims who believe in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, we believe that love for one's country is part of the Islamic teachings. This convention is faith inspiring. It fosters brotherhood among the members of the community.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad founded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in 1889 at the directive of God and since 1891 this convention is held in different parts of world where Ahmadi Muslims reside.
