Australia: Why do I love Australia so much when I’m not even an Australian citizen yet? | Asif A. Khan

I try my best to contribute in making this great country even better by doing voluntary work and teaching my children to be loyal, law-abiding citizens.

Why do I love Australia so much when I’m not even an Australian citizen yet? Why do I love Australia when 28 out of 32 years of my life were spent in Pakistan?

I belong to the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, which is heavily persecuted in Pakistan. Even after paying tax, I’m unable to vote in the country of my birth. I can’t practice my religion there and I have been denied basic human rights.

On the other hand, Australia has provided me with everything I could have ever dreamt of. Australia has provided me security, respect, equality, religious freedom, a job and most of all, a good education for my children. In return, I try my best to contribute in making this great country even better by doing voluntary work and teaching my children to be loyal, law-abiding citizens.

This is why I will love Australia till my last breath. I’ll always be ready to protect Australian values, which makes it the best country in the world.
