A Muslim society dedicated to spreading the message of peace and understanding will hold an open house on Justice and World Peace on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Brantford Public Library's main branch on downtown Colborne Street.
The open house is part of a nationwide campaign by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association called Demystify Islam, which began in December 2015 in response to the attacks carried out by terrorist groups in Paris.
"Critics of Islam and those who lack knowledge of true Islam have conceived the false notion that Islam promotes extremism and terrorism and that it promotes its followers to use violence as a means for conversion and oppression," said Noman Khalil, the organization's national executive director.
"They cite this false and extremist ideology by referencing the actions of ISIS an other terrorist groups. This is far from the truth."
The "false allegations" against Islam have never been the teaching of religion, he said.
"Islam upholds equality, promotes the co-existence of all faiths and teaches peace and justice. The word Islam itself translates to peace. Islam teaches its followers that there is no compulsion in religion, protect all places of worship, make peace between people with equity, uphold religious freedom, protect all life, and act justly."
Khalil said Islam has laid down a fundamental principle of absolute justice for establishing and maintaining world peace, but ISIS, other terrorist groups and countries have failed to follow it.
"Injustice by terrorist groups and certain countries is the root cause of the crisis, disorder and the lack of peace in the world," he said.
"We ask the residents of Brantford to come to the open house and show their support for justice and peace in the world."
During its campaign, the association will hold 135 open houses and make 27 visits to about 35 towns across Canada.
The association is an auxiliary wing of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a non-profit, charitable religious organization in 206 countries with 86 chapters across Canada. They are followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, an Indian religious leader who founded the Ahmadiyya Movement, dedicated to ending religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace.
