Nigeria: Ahmadi Muslim Youth All African Games Start in Grand Style


The Ahmadi Youth All African Games features seven games, which include Football, Volley Ball, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Taekwondo, Track Events (100m, 200m, 400m & 4 by 100m) and Marathon Race.

As part of the activities to mark the centenary celebrations of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nigeria, the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria (MKAN) has kicked off an African sports tournament tagged Ahmadi Youth All African Games – “AYAAG 2016.” The opening Ceremony of the event which was attended by the government functionaries, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nigeria and participants from various countries, was held on Saturday, March 19th, 2016, at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria.

In his welcome speech, the Chairman of the Occasion and the Amir (national President) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria, Dr. Mash'ud Adenrele Fashola, welcomed all the guests, athletes and spectators to AYAAG. He admonished youth on spiritual and social development and promotion of love, peace and international brotherhood. He asserted that, “Engaging youth at all times will prevent them from falling into the abyss of evil vices. I hereby call on government and other stakeholders to come together in order to solve the issue of unemployment so as to be able to protect the future generations as well save guide our nations.” Amir Fashola advised youth to engage themselves more in meaningful educational trainings, sports, job creation through agricultural development, and a host of others.

Honourable Minister of Youth & Sports Development in Nigeria, Barr. Solomon Dalung, who is the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony, welcomed Ahmadi Youth from all over the world to Nigeria for the AYAAG 2016, on behalf of the government of Nigeria. He said that, “Youth as the future of nations should be engaged physically and spiritually in order for them to be able to attain greater heights. I thank the leadership of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria for chosen Nigeria as the first hosting country for the Ahmadi Youth All African Games.” Through his representative at the event by Mr. Dayo Bamigboye [the South-West, Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports, Nigeria], he promised to continue to partner with the MKAN in future engagements.

In the same vein, in his welcome address, the Sadr (National President) of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria, Comrade Abdul Qadir Abdul Rafi, appreciated Allah for His unlimited favours on all members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria to witness the 100th year of existence of the community in Nigeria. He took his time to give a background information on AYAAG project, its aims and objectives. He also highlighted some of other centenary projects being embarked upon by the MKAN; which include National Tree Planting campaign, Inter-Religious Peace Conference, National Blood Donation drive, “Stop the Crime” Campaign Free Medical Services, first African Conference of Majlis Ansar Sultan Qalam. Among others. At the end, the Sadr of MKAN thanked all the delegates that were able to witness Ahmadi Youth All African Games.

Goodwill messages were delivered by: the representative of Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, ably represented by the Commissioner of Youth & Sports in Ogun State, Hon. Maroof Afolabi Afuape; representative of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN); heads of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya delegations from Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Republic of Benin, Tanzania, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and United Kingdom.

Also in attendance were Sadr, Majlis Ansarullah Nigeria (Alhaji M.B. Odukoya), Sadr Lajna Imaillah Nigeria (Dr. Mrs. Balqis Dikko), past Sadran of MKAN, and a host of others. AIMAN Taekwondo Team also entertained the guests with their beautiful and highly professional martial art demonstrations.

The Ahmadi Youth All African Games features seven games, which include Football, Volley Ball, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Taekwondo, Track Events (100m, 200m, 400m & 4 by 100m) and Marathon Race; with participants drawn from Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and United Kingdom.
