Chenab Nagar: Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, a top cleric on the federal government's payroll, has called for the execution of Ahmadis who, he claims, do not believe that the prophethood had ended with the Prophet Muhammad.

Mufti Rehman heads the Ruet-e Hilal Committee of Pakistan which is responsible for managing an armature-class telescope used in moon-sighting for certain Muslim festivals.

Speaking at a "Khatme Nabuwat" rally in Lalyan village near Chenab Nagar, Mufti Rehman referenced the Pakistani constitution in claiming that Ahmadis deny the concept of Khatme Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood) and are, therefore, outside the fold of Islam.

The cleric further asserted, although erroneously, that the punishment for not accepting the constitution is execution. "And, therefore," he said, "those who deny the finality of the Prophet Muhammad should also be executed."

Mufti Rehman promoted a boycott of the Ahmadiyya products and advised the youths at this anti-Ahmadiyya rally to connect with Islamic seminaries (madrassahs) "in order to save themselves" from the Ahmadi propaganda.

Mufti Rehman paid tribute to several cleric of the past who had instigated the 1974 anti-Ahmadiyya riots in Pakistan and they were instrumental in enacting anti-Ahmadiyya amendment in the Pakistani Constitution.
