One such provision discussed in the Holy Quran is polygamy. Islam beliefs say polygamy can incorporate the weak, such as widows and orphans, into family units, so long as men provide equitably.

The local Ahmadiyya Community will sponsor a seminar for women only at UW-Oshkosh to provide insight about Islam’s view of polygamy.

After World War II, due to high number of casualties, the ratio of men to women was 1 to 40. As a result, in a society where men were primary providers for the family, many women had to turn to prostitution to provide for themselves and their families. Islam is a religion that strives to maintain a stable society, and establish provisions that can address these problems.

One such provision discussed in the Holy Quran is polygamy. Islam beliefs say polygamy can incorporate the weak, such as widows and orphans, into family units, so long as men provide equitably for all of their wives. If they cannot do so, they are to remain monogamous, as the vast majority of Muslims are today.

To learn more about Islam’s view of polygamy and about the wives of the Prophet Muhammad, consider attending a seminar held by the Ahmadiyya Community in Reeve Union at UWO on April 18 at 11 a.m. For more information, contact Raazia Riffat at (920)-216-9494 or oshkoshsadr@lajnausa.net.
