Gaithersburg, MD: Muslim youth from around the world convened today for the 7th Annual Masroor International Sports Tournament (MIST) which will end on April 4.

Named after the current Khalifa of Islam, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, MIST began as a small, largely local, Basketball tournament with about 50 participants in 2004.

The 2010 event will host approximately 400 athletes competing in Soccer and Basketball from all over the United States, Canada, and several European countries.

Majlis Khuddamal Ahmadiyya USA (MKA USA) sponsors MIST.  While the majority of participants are Muslim, tournament organizers encourage teams to bring their non-Muslim friends to watch and participate.

The decision to include non-Muslim participants was done to actively demonstrate that Islam stands for tolerance and pluralism.

To be sure, participants perform their best in an effort to win.  However, those efforts are never compromised with the ugly head of disrespect, cursing, taunting, or personal grudges.

I encourage all in the Maryland area to attend this event if possible.  To find out more, please visit the event website.
