What about Ahmadiyyas, who are classified as non-Muslims because of their core belief in the death and return of Jesus? Several blasphemy and hadood laws (laws based on Sharia law) are written and used against them in Pakistan, resulting in the killing of several hundred of them.

This is in response to the In My View column by Ali and Adil Nizamuddin on Aug. 28 and Amna Owais’ letter on Aug. 25 regarding public reaction against Islam and the proposed mosque.
The Nizamuddins tell us that a person rejecting or disbelieving Jesus is no longer called a Muslim in Islam. What about Ahmadiyyas, who are classified as non-Muslims because of their core belief in the death and return of Jesus? Several blasphemy and hadood laws (laws based on Sharia law) are written and used against them in Pakistan, resulting in the killing of several hundred of them. Unlike other Muslims, Ahmadis have spoken against Islamic terrorism openly.
Dr. Abdus Salam (a Nobel laureate) is not even recognized for his achievements in Pakistan.
The Nizamuddins and Owais tell us that terrorists are few in number. The fact is that there are 42,000 madrassas in Pakistan with enrollment exceeding 2.1 million, where boys and girls are taught to be jihadists and suicide bombers. In addition, there are 42 terrorist training camps. In addition, hundreds of Sunni mosques spread hatred against minorities and the west openly.
A portion of the $1 billion Pakistan gets in aid from the U.S. is diverted to the Taliban by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to keep America engaged in war. As per Jere Van Dyk, author of “Captive: My Time as a Prisoner of Taliban,” the Taliban receive $2,000 for planting a bomb, $2,000 for killing an Afghan soldier, $10,000 for killing an American and $20,000 goes to a suicide bomber’s family from ISI. Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had stated that terrorism is a state policy in Pakistan.
Pakistan will continue to be the center of world terrorism unless its leaders dismantle blasphemy and hadood laws against minorities, close all terrorist training camps and madrassas, and stop funding these jihadists.
Burning the Quran is wrong, but Muslims should also not insist on building a mosque at ground zero. It simply adds salt to their wounds.
