The director of global marketing at humanity first international Mr. Fazal Ahmad has arrived in the Gambia on Friday 17th December 2010. He was received at the Banjul international airport by the chairman of HF Gambia branch Mr. Kawsu Kinteh.
In an exclusive interview with on Tuesday morning Mr. Ahmad said the purpose of his visit is to access how successful our existing projects have been and then to consider new ones.
According to Mr. Fazal Ahmad Humanity first is a charitable trust established to promote and safeguard human life and dignity. It is a non- political, non-religions, non sectarian international relief and development agency that work with the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.
He said Humanity First was established in 1995 by Mirza Tahir Ahmad fourth successor of the promised messiah. He said the initiator has a vision of helping Africa with no strings attached-nee don't need any benefits from it, HT is now established in 33 countries and most of our aid workers and management of HF are unpaid volunteers and our administrative expenses negligible.
Mr. Ahmad said that they are working at the grassroots level to improve the level of education and health care of the poorest people in the Gambia.
He said one of these projects is called knowledge for life and in that programme here are working with various senior secondary schools to make education more practical and we are providing them with science lab and library. We want to equip the students with materials especially those in the provinces. He understands that most of the students don't like mathematics and science, but by equipping them with laboratory, it will motivate them and inspire them to be more serious with these subject areas.
Mr. Ahmad revealed that they are building new facilities at Masroor Senior School in Old Yundum for children including vocational training, Assembly hall, sports field and we are also planning to build an orphanage centre in the coming years.
Turning to the IT centre at Latri-Kunda Sabiji Mr. Ahmad said over the last 6 years we have trained over 18, 000 young men women on IT from certificate to diploma level.
He further revealed that a second block will be laid in Latri Kunda before he departs. He said after the completion of that block they will conduct a broad band training which means faster internet connection. He pointed out that before experts will come here every two years to train the locals on a particular skills and returns home, but with this the experts can be in U.K, US, Australia or in any parts of the world and we in the Gambia will receive and benefits his skills and knowledge. This simply refers to as skills transfer. He said a Microsoft certificated training is also in the offing.
Mr. Ahmad said he has visited some projects sites in the provinces and he is well pleased with them.
He said they have also visited Panchang in the central river region and HF intends to construct a health centre for then and the 82 villages surrounding them.
Mr. Fazal Ahmad before ending his visit is also aiming to pay a courtesy call on officials of the education and health ministries. He also intends to meet mayors and national assembly members
He is expected to returned back U.K on Friday 24th December 2010.
