Lahore High Court moved against disqualification of Sherry for seeking amendment to Blasphemy Laws

The petitioner also submitted that the President of Pakistan, the parliament or court of law do not have the authority or powers to grant pardon to blasphemy convicts.

LAHORE  (December 24, 2010) : A petition has been filed against PPP MNA Ms Sherry Rehman, seeking her disqualification for bringing a bill in the parliament to amend blasphemy laws.

The petitioner, a bar member Muhammad Azhar Siddique contended that Ms Sherry, despite being a Muslim, has stood against Qur'anic injunctions and is liable to be disqualified from the membership of the national assembly. He prayed to the court to direct speaker national assembly to initiate proceedings for her (MNA's) disqualification.

The petitioner also submitted that the President of Pakistan, the parliament or court of law do not have the authority or powers to grant pardon to blasphemy convict and prayed to the court to restrict parliament, president of Pakistan to take any action to pardon Aasia or amend blasphemy law, till the decision on the petition.
