In light of recent world events, members of a local mosque spent Sunday afternoon going door-to-door; hoping to change what they perceive is a negative image of their religion.
Members of the Ahmadiyya Mosque tell CTV News they want people to understand that the images some people may associate with the Muslim faith that they see on the news are just not true.
Images such as the war in Afghanistan, the Twin Towers crumbling to the ground on 9/11, and of Osama bin Laden are things they want to replace.
Instead, they want people to see who the real Muslims are, such as these men and children who went around several east end neighbourhoods today, slamming the notion that Islam equals terrorism.
"They profess to be Muslim, but we have a very strong disagreement with them," said Mohyuddin Mirza. "What they're doing is not what Islam says."
It's a message that is being accepted by Norma Anne Power, who says she's a proud Christian.
"It just means that you have to be tolerant and accepting," said Power. "It has to go both ways."
The group says they hope they can change Canadian perceptions of who Muslims are, even if it's just one door at a time.
"It has to be brought to a humanity level," said Mirza. "Can we co-exist as good human beings? Can we respect each other? It doesn't matter what faith you belong to."
Mosques in other Canadian cities including Calgary are doing the same thing Sunday.
