RELIGIOUS wars were the subject of Salisbury’s first interfaith forum, hosted by Muslims from the city.

The question under discussion at Harnham Memorial Hall was whether such conflicts can ever be justified.

Among those taking part were MP John Glen and Dr Michael Delashmutt, director of studies at Sarum College.

The event was organised by local members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK, whose deputy Amir, Akram Ahmedi, spoke of the historical context in which the Holy Prophet of Islam was compelled to fight in defensive wars only. He also gave a brief explanation of the widely misinterpreted concept of Jihad, a personal war which each individual undergoes striving for self- betterment. There was a chance for the audience to ask questions, and a buffet.
