Rochester, N.Y. – Muslims in the Rochester area joined Muslims across the world in celebrating the end of Ramadan, Islam’s holy month.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community gathered at Bait-un-Naseer Mosque in Rochester Sunday morning for prayer and lunch to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, the feast for breaking fast.

For the past several weeks Muslims have been fasting during the day.

“It makes you empathetic for those who are less fortunate,” said Mubarak Bashir, Director of Faith Outreach for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. “Throughout the year it should give you an idea of what those people are going through, so this is Ramadan, it trains us how we should act throughout the entire year.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community opened the celebration up to the entire community.

Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
