One visitor admitted that this event helped quell her curiosity as she had virtually no knowledge about Islam; her perception was that of a violent faith whose adherents- Muslims wanted to kill Americans! This lady belonged to the Jewish faith and her eagerness to learn about Islam and its Holy Scripture –the Quran, prompted her to contact the organizers weeks before the event.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Miami Chapter held a Quran Exhibition at Northwest Regional Library in Coral Springs, FL on August 14. Visitors expressed a keen interest in the exhibition as they browsed through the various translations and read posters that have been especially prepared for such exhibitions and showcase some of the core Islamic beliefs laid down in the Holy Quran. Some visitors admitted that it was a first time opportunity for them to visit such an event and learn about Islam and its Holy Book. Free Quran DVDs were available for guests who demonstrated a desire to read the Holy Quran in detail.

The prime objective of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for holding such exhibitions nationwide is to acquaint fellow Americans about the Holy Quran and help them understand Islamic teachings regarding contemporary issues. Such a need is urgent in the aftermath of 9/11; myths about Islam abound. Those who lack awareness about the fundamental beliefs of Islam are often in doubt and give into the misperceptions that that have proliferated in the national dialogue.

This lack of awareness was visible at the Exhibition.

Most visitors inquired about Islam’s stance on women’s rights. One admitted that prior to this event she believed that in Islam women are just considered as slaves, solely for the service of men. Thus, when briefed about the balanced, just, respectful and rightful role of women as ordained in the Quran, she expressed her appreciation for such an event. She lauded the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and said that such events are much needed in the United States.

Visitors also quizzed the organizers about Quranic injunctions and teachings regarding other faiths, particularly Judaism and Christianity.

Another exhibition is scheduled at the same venue for September 18.
