Humanity First, an international aid agency providing services to relieve sufferings caused by human conflicts and natural disasters, launched a global fundraising and preparedness initiative yesterday to ensure the charity will respond effectively and long-term to assist the victims in the Syrian civil war.

Humanity First says the organization is working with the UN and other NGOs on the ground and "planning a long term assistance program covering relief supplies and medical assistance in the region."

According to a Twitter post yesterday, the charity announced it running start, saying: "@humanityfirstuk fundraising for the Syria Crisis is already active in 8 countries including in West Africa."

The two-plus years old Syrian civil war has claimed over 100,000 lives, over 4 million internally displaced people and over 2 million people displaced abroad, mostly in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.

The charity says the worst affected civilians are women with young children who are suffering shock, trauma, and lack food, safe water, hygiene and medical attention.

"There are large temporary camps now," Humanity First says, "where conditions are not ideal [and] as winter approaches, they will also need blankets and warm clothing."

"There are also fears of the spread of typhoid and diarrhea due to the lack of safe drinking water and sanitation in many of the refugee settings."

According to its website, Humanity First is an international charitable organization that "provides aid and assistance to those in need irrespective of race, religion or politics"

A brainchild of late Mirza Tahir Ahmad (1928-2003), fourth Caliph of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Humanity First is run primarily by large teams of volunteers spread globally and over 90% of its raised funds are used directly on programs in the field.

The organization has registered offices in 41 countries and the teams have been working on projects in 50 countries across 6 continents.
