MEMBERS of the Ahmadiyya Muslim group are working on a project to beautify a creek near their Langwarrin mosque.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (Victoria) president Javed Safdar Choudhary said the project grew out of a discussion with Frankston Mayor Darrel Taylor.
Mr Choudhary said his group would work with Melbourne Water and Frankston Council to complete the beautification.
He hoped a master plan would be ready by the end of the year and would involve weed removal, planting natives and clearing walkways.
Mr Choudhary said the beautification works had been dubbed the Harmony Creek project to draw on his group’s motto of Love for All, Hatred for None.
Cr Taylor said the works would enable people to go jogging around the creek and enjoy a picnic.
“The area would be enhanced and beautified for the community to use,” he said. “It’s a great example of mateship and giving back.”
Melbourne Water spokesman Greg Bain said the area lent itself to social and recreational activities.
“We’re rapt to be a part of the Harmony Creek project to provide greater amenity for the community,” he said.
