Militant extremists murdered an Ahmadi Muslim charity worker in a faith-based attack in Rabwah, Pakistan, on Monday.
Dr Mehdi Ali Qamar, a US citizen, had taken his wife and two-year-old son to visit the graves of loved ones at a local cemetery when he was brutally gunned down by two men on motorbikes in a targeted killing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 51-year-old doctor was on a three-week medical mission to Pakistan, volunteering at Rabwah’s Tahir Heart Institute. He had arrived in Pakistan just 2 days earlier from the United States.
The cardiac surgeon is survived by his wife and three children.
Ahmadi Muslims are murdered all too frequently in Pakistan, where the State has legislated to outlaw the basic religious practices of Ahmadi Muslims.
Earlier this month, another Ahmadi Muslim was taken into police custody on baseless blasphemy charges, before being shot and killed in his cell by a teenage assassin.
The Spokesman of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Abid Khan said:
"The killing of Dr Mehdi Ali Qamar earlier today was yet another senseless, tragic and barbaric attack on an innocent Ahmadi Muslim. All Ahmadi Muslims are grieved by this tragic loss. An innocent man was killed having travelled thousands of miles in an effort to volunteer his medical services to those in need in front of his wife and young child. What happened was inhumane and brutal beyond all comprehension. We hope and pray that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice in accordance with the law."
