Amjad Mahmood Khan, national director of public affairs for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, USA, was called to testify before the U.S. House's Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations.
Entitled, "Protecting Religious Freedom: U.S. Efforts to Hold Accountable Countries of Particular Concern," the hearing was held on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
Mr Khan cited several high level stats and highlighted the predicament of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and several other countries. "The plight of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan has reached a dangerous tipping point."
"State officials and police permit extreme groups to target and murder Ahmadi Muslim families and professionals with impunity," Amjad Khan further stated..
Mr Khan stressed that in Punjab, in particular, the number of targeted killings is at an all-time high. "In Pakistan's Kafkaesque reality, the security and legal aparatus has failed the victims and emboldened the perpetrators."
"This must end," Khan stressed.
Other panelists who joined Mr. Khan to testify before the commission included, Robert P. George, Ph.D., Chairman, U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom; Mr. Kenneth E. Bowers, Secretary, National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the United States; and Pastor Bob Fu, Founder and President, ChinaAid Association.
