Funeral services are planned in Toronto for an American cardiologist from the minority Ahmadi sect killed in Pakistan last week in front of his wife and toddler son.

Draped in Canadian and the US flags, Dr. Mehdi Ali Qamar's coffin arrived in Toronto today where family, friends and the friends of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community have been gathering for viewing and to pay their respect with the burial planned for Wednesday.

Among the government officials, Co-Chair of "Parliamentary Friends of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at" MP Judy Sgro, and Ambassador of The Office of Religious Freedom, Andrew Bennett came early and paid their respects during the viewing at Dr Qamar's Funeral in Toronto.

Dr Qamar, who holds dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship, was on a mercy medical mission in Pakistan and had planned to treat patients at the Tahir Heart Institute in Rabwah.

Police say two gunmen riding a motorcycle shot Dr. Qamar as he and his family left a cemetery after visiting relatives' graves.

Qamar's wife and son were not harmed. He is survived by two other sons.

Adopted from Associated Press report.
