Islam, Five pillars of Muslim faith and difference between Ahmadi Muslim & non Ahmadi Muslims
Imam Shamshad A. Nasir recently spoke at the Central United Methodist Church in Oblong, a small village in Crawford County, Illinois, after he received an invitation through Bloomington chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to visit the church. Imam
Imam Shamshad along with two Ahmadi Muslim members traveled for four hours from Glen Ellyn to Oblong on Thursday, 29th October 2015, where he availed the opportunity to explain the '5 pillars' of Islam, touched on the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and explained dogmatic differences between Ahmadiyya-Isam and the rest of the Muslims.
The members of the church, though had concerns about Islam, but they were friendly and all the discussion was done in a home like environment in the Church.
Imam began with a brief introduction of how Islam started and difficulties in the early 13 years of Islam in Makkah followed by their migration to Madina. Imam also talked about the wars launched by non believers of Makkah against Muslims after they migrated to Madina.
About the five pillars of Muslim faith, Imam mentioned about declaration of faith -the Kalima - and explained that this is a verbal announcement that one is willfully entering into Islam. He, for interest of the audience, explained that like Christians have baptism for someone who converts to Christianity, Muslims have the Kalima for this purpose.
Imam explained about the act of worship - five daily prayers - saying that voluntarily praying multiple times everyday establishes a strong relationship with God.
"Just as physical health depend on multiple meals every day, so is spiritual health," Imam said.
Explaining the third pillar of faith, spending in the cause of God, Imam said that all money one earns is not for his use alone. A portion of the earnings must be spent on the needy and poor people per the Muslims beliefs.
Imam discussed the month of Ramadan where Muslims don't eat and drink from dawn to dusk to observe fast during the entire lunar month. Imam also explained about those who are exempt from fasting such as the travelers, the sick, the nursing mothers, etc.
Imam then explained the fifth pillar of the Muslim faith, Hajj. He significantly elaborated that Hajj is a grand commemoration of Abraham's obedience to God.
Imam explained that Makka was a barren land where, as the scriptures state, the prophet Abraham was commanded by the God to leave his wife Hajra and son Ismail. The story of Abraham readying himself to slaughter his willing son -- and both accepting the command of God -- is common to the scriptures of the all three great Abrahamic faiths.
Imam said that in reality all five pillars of Islam teach freedom of faith.
Imam presented the book "World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace", to all the church members. This book is a compilation of speeches and letters for peace to leading personalities of the world, by His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Imam and the Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
This was explained to one of the female church members that Jihad doesn't mean killing people in anyway. Jihad simply means to make efforts in any direction, for a good cause.
It was further mentioned that pioneer of the Ahmadiyya community, Mirza Ghula Ahmad, the Promised Messiah of this age, has told more than one hundred years back that no one can kill any person in the name of religion.
Imam invited the pastor to 'do some Jihad and bring his congregation to Glen Ellyn Ahmadiyya mosque' and see how Ahmadi behaves and perform their prayers to have a direct and clear idea.
Imam thanked the Pastor and all present of their hospitality and warm welcome. Few members from the local chapter and the President Brother Najmuddin joined in this meeting.
