The tragic events that occurred in Brussels, Belgium, signify that the world must unite in order to end these barbaric acts of terrorism.

At the same time, it should be the duty of every Muslim to stand firm in defending the reputation of Islam that terrorist groups such as ISIS have hijacked.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been at the forefront of condemning the killing of the innocent. The community is actively engaged in campaigns such as "Stop the crISIS," "Muslims for Peace," "Muslims for Loyalty" and recently "True Islam": a website that elucidates 11 key points that are paramount to Islam as a religion.

Going back to the issue of extremism, the Holy Quran explicitly states that "whosoever kills an innocent soul, it is as if he had killed all of mankind" (5:33). From just this verse alone, it should be clear that what is being portrayed in the mass media is not reflecting true observers of the faith.

Subsequently, a collective effort is necessary to eliminate such misconceptions that are prevalent in society today.
