Amid raging debate over triple talaq across the country, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (Community) today said it opposes pronouncing divorce in one go.
Talking to news reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Shiraz Ahmad and spokesperson Tariq Ahmad Ahmadiyya said as per the community's view, triple talaq cannot be done in one session.
"After pronouncement of talaq there should be an interval between each talaq so that both the wife and husband have a space to reconcile and think over their decision again," Tariq Ahmad Ahmadiyya said.
The community does not consider triple talaq without interval as "valid", Mr Ahmadiyya said. "Moreover, any decision taken in anger, according to Islam, is not considered valid," he added.
Besides, the community is also organising seminars to create awareness among the Muslim community on the issue of triple talaq, he said.
Several Muslim organisations and intellectuals have been flagging concerns over pronouncing triple talaq instantly.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had filed affidavits before the Supreme Court supporting triple talaq which is being vehemently opposed by a number of women organisations, intellectuals and jurists.
The community will hold also hold its 122nd annual convention at Quadian in Gurdaspur district of Punjab beginning December 26. The three-day convention will conclude on December 28 during which the pure, pristine and peaceful teachings of Islam would be presented. Leaders of all religions have been invited to take part in the convention.
