Volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) Cardiff wanted to help those less fortunate
Young Muslims spent their Christmas Eve helping homeless people in Cardiff – by giving away bedding and serving hot drinks in the city centre.
Volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) Cardiff went on to the streets of the Welsh capital and gave away bedding including duvets, towels and pillows to the less fortunate.
More than 20 volunteers, aged 10 to 30, also offered hot drinks to rough sleepers on Queen Street and St Mary Street and plan on spending New Year’s Day sweeping and litter picking in the city centre after leaving early morning prayers at the their mosque on Sanatorium Road in Canton.
Kaleem Ahmed, Youth Leader for Cardiff said: “Islam urges every person to partake in charitable giving, and that even an act of kindness towards another is charity.
“AMYA has and continues to instill young people with a sense of civil responsibility, and a desire to promote harmony within our local communities.
“Our members have enjoyed living in Cardiff for decades and so any opportunity to help our local community is a much welcomed one.”
AMYA is a body of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a religious and charitable Muslim organisation, with over 8,600 members across the UK.
The AMYA helps with the development of young Muslims, with the organisation helping to ensure that its members are a source of peace for the society around them.
The group are regularly seen in markets, stations and high streets preaching their Islamic motto of Love For All Hatred For None.
Last year, the group raised more than £600,000 for charities, planted 25,000 tress and fed 14,000 living in poverty.
AMYA members also donated 250 units of blood and donated over 5,200 kg of food to food bank as well as 4,500kg of clothes.
