ALBANY -- The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has launched a nationwide campaign to dispel misunderstandings about Islam and its message of peace.

Locally this month, "Muslims for Loyalty" signs will appear on CDTA buses, and this weekend volunteers from the Albany chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA plan to distribute more than 5,000 fliers at the Tulip Festival to spread their message to their fellow Americans.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim movement, which was founded 1889 and established in the United States in 1920, considers itself the only Islamic organization to believe that the messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who lived from 1835-1908 in what is today the Indian state of Punjab.

"Osama Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader, he held our faith hostage -- and for years we have fought to get it back," said Noah Quick, leader of local group's Youth Auxiliary. "Our community stands for loyalty to the United States of America."
