Re: "Not so peaceful," Letter, May 12.
To better understand the perspective of Muslims who argue that Islam is a peaceful religion, look up what these peaceful Muslims are actually doing. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community is exemplary when it comes to standing up for the cause of peace on a global scale. A great number of Muslims have condoned atrocities, such as the recent kidnapping of Nigerian schoolgirls.
Claiming that Islam is not a religion of peace because of the actions of a few is a generalization. It's true that some so-called Islamic states have adopted a flawed interpretation of sharia that does not reflect the absolute justice advocated in the Qur'an. Bad apples exist and every religion has them, including Islam. The turmoil faced by Muslim countries cannot be simply reduced to theology. There are many political, economic and international factors that have led to the dire state of these countries. True peace can only be achieved by highlighting the good and educating the ignorant.
