In view of the terror attacks in Dinanagar, the security at Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s headquarters at Qādiān in Gurdaspur has been beefed up.
Ahmadiyyas are treated as non-Muslims in Pakistan and security agencies here fear that their headquarters, located just 40 km away from Dinnanagar, where three terrorists stormed a police station on July 27, might come under militants’ targets.
The administration has deployed extra security personnel in the town and Ahmadiyya Jamā’at has also asked its Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya youth wing of the community at Qādiān to be extra vigilant.
Jamā'at spokesperson Tariq Ahmad told TOI on Sunday that after Dinnanagar attack, the youth volunteers of Khaddam-ul-Ahmadiyya had been told to be on high alert. They were generally deployed for the security of Ahmadiyya Jamā’at’s religious functions in Qādiān.
Chief secretary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamā'at Maulana Mohammad Inaam Ghori said he was satisfied with the extra deployment of police force after the terror attack. Jamā'at receives thousands of pilgrims from Pakistan during the annual Jalsa Salana (annual convention) held in December at Qādiān.
Spokesperson of Jamā'at said they keep reviewing the security from time to time. He said more stringent measures would be put in place for the verification of devotees arriving from Pakistan to attend the annual convention.
Intelligence sources said since Ahmadiyyas were considered non-Muslims in Pakistan and they had been the target of terrorists there was possibility of an attack against them in India also. Batala senior superintendent of police Inderbir Singh said security had been beefed up in whole of the district following the Diananagar attack.
