The incident took place in Samundari, a city in District Faisalabad, where local Christians have approached police in pursuit of justice.
Victims reportedly hail from meager background, “who had been tortured and beaten as they are fragile and weak,” said Professor Anjum James Paul a local Christian.
In keeping with details, seven Christians were subjected to heinous physical torture on September 16, Friday evening. Victims have been identified as Shahzad Masih, Zahid Masih, Hanif Masih, Arif Masih, Rabat Masih, Sharifan and Perveen Bibi. The cause of the assault are yet unknown however, in compliance with Professor Anjum James Paul’s narrative, he and some other local Christians had reported the incident to local police.
Religion-based persecution has been alarmingly increasing in the country as the United States Commission for International Religious Freedom stated in its annual report: “In 2015, the Pakistani government continued to perpetrate and tolerate systematic, ongoing, and egregious religious freedom violations. Religiously-discriminatory constitutional provisions and legislation, such as the country’s blasphemy law and anti-Ahmadiyya laws, intrinsically violate international standards of freedom of religion or belief and result in prosecutions and imprisonments.”
