Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, the Mayor of Croydon, received a cheque for £2,000 towards the mayor’s charity fund at a reception at the Town Hall to help promote the Charity Walk for Peace, which is being staged in east London on May 14.

The money had been raised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Elders Association, and the event was opened by Zaheer Ahmed, the chairman of Charity Walk for Peace, who explained how important it was that as a community of various faiths should come together under the platform of Charity Walk for Peace, which has raised £3.5million for good causes.

Other charities represented at the event, held in the Mayor’s Parlour, included the Medaille Trust, which deals with the issues created by human trafficking, the Samaritans in Croydon and Sutton, the Parkinson’s charity and Age UK Croydon.

All speakers expressed their thanks for the work and assistance given by AMCEA through Charity Walk for Peace.

The Mayor spoke of his gratitude for the work that is carried out by the Ahmadiyya Community and thanked Bushra Ahmad for her tireless work.

The 2016 Charity Walk for Peace saw 2,500 people walk more than five miles on a route near the Thames, around Silvertown and Newham, the same area where this year’s walk is being staged.
